The Date - Awkward! Analysis and Clip

The Date - Awkward! Analysis

The clip opens with a long/establishing shot of 2 character (1 male, 1 female) sat in an open environment that the audience will be able to see is a date from the stereotypical conventions used. These include slight romantic music, both characters partly facing each other as well as the various props such a a bottle of wine/champagne, picnic basket and a blanket layed out on the floor. The camera shot then changes to the female characters face (Close Up) who is looking awkwardly around and the looks to the ground which the audience will be able to see is awkward from the stereotypical eye movements and facial expressions. The camera then changes to show the face of the male character who does the same thing, (Close Up) which suggest to the audience that there is clearly some awkwardness between the two character which they'll see as a stereotypical date over all from the various conventions seen through out these 3 small clips. The camera shot then changes back to the long.establishing shot and we see that both characters simultaneously reach for the wine/champagne and further awkwardness follows. We see the female character pull her hand back and we see the male character open the bottle and drinks from it (Close Up). We see the female characters facial expression of slight disgust/unpleasantness (Close Up). The camera shot changes back to the male characters face where he then smiles at her to try and break the awkwardness.(Close Up). Throughout all of this the quiet romantic music is playing. The camera shot then changes to the male character taking out a strawberry from the picnic basket. (Yet another stereotypical picnic date action used, Over the Shoulder (Male character)) As the female character goes to eat the strawberry a Velociraptor appears in the frame and eats the strawberry and at this point the music stops completely. (Camera changes to Long/Establishing shot) Both characters suddenly flinch at the same time the dinosaur bites down on the picnic basket. At the same time the male character gets up and steps back a few paces from it all. Leaving the female character sat on the ground. The dinosaur then lifts the picnic basket and runs out of frame going past the female character. The male character then lifts his arms as if to suggest he's saying "What the hell?" or another similar expression.
